Seven Days Ultimate Open Championship Golf Duel Adventure

This is a true one in a lifetime experience, enjoy a golf duel against the members at Old Prestwick, the course where the first ever Open Championship took place and enjoy dinner in their historic clubhouse. We travel the short distance to Troon for our next adventure before heading down the coast to our inspiration at the Ailsa Course at Turnberry, after an evening in the Trump Turnberry we head across the coast to Muirfield to play at the home of the Honourable Association of Edinburgh golfers. It’s now time to head north to Carnoustie where many a scorecard has been destroyed before ending our ultimate adventure at the Old Course, St Andrews. I wonder in whose footsteps you may walk in today?

The West Coast & Loch Lomond

The venue for the two days of Golf Duelling will be the magnificent West Kilbride Links on the Ayrshire course and we will be staying along the coast in Troon at a popular hotel with the players and their families when the Open rolls in to town, expect a few pints and drams in some local pubs. We will also play one of my local favourites at Western Gailes, make sure to bring your straight game, the fairways are on the narrow side and once you are warmed up we will have the gentle challenge of a day at Royal Troon and a finishing round at our inspiration, the Ailsa at Turnberry. During this trip you will also have the option of taking a helicopter to the Isle of Arran to play Shiskine, visit a few historic castles, take the high road to Loch Lomond and of course if you have a thirst that needs quenched we can visit some fine distilleries.

Gleneagles & St. Andrews

A short distance down from St Andrews we find the old fishing village of Crail, one of our hidden gems and a fabulous course to have our Golf Duel with local members, remember that golf has been played here for centuries and many of the tales you will hear have been carried on through the ages. From Crail it’s a short trip down the coast to Kingsbarns, one of the newer courses in the area but a must visit on any trip to this special place. And talking about special places we head up to St Andrews to play the Old Course and visit the ‘auld toon’ before the final leg of our adventure to Gleneagles, the venue of the 2012 Ryder Cup and a genuine golfers paradise.

Hidden Gems

We could have chosen almost any of the hidden gems for the first day’s Golf Duel but we are heading to the Island of Arran to play Shiskine, the 12 holes wonder on the west of the island. I hope you’re okay with water as over we go again towards the Mull of Kintyre to play at the marvellous Maccrihanish before another island hope to Islay to play Machrie. It would be rude not to pay some of the local hostelries and distilleries a visit while we’re here and when suitably refreshed we head back across the mainland to play Dunbar and Gullane, a real golfing treat.

Edinburgh & East Lothian

East Lothian is often called Scotland’s golf coast but to be perfectly honest almost every part of the Scottish coastline has some claim to that much sought after title. But this is where it truly all began. King James IV of Scotland, born in 1473, became the world’s first golfing monarch having overturned a ban on the sport by King James II in 1457 because it was distracting the men of Scotland from their military practice. We are not sure how much things have changed in the subsequent 500 or so years.

Our adventure here starts at Gullane, home to three courses ranked by a number reflecting their age and a venue not only for the Scottish open Championship but also a qualifying course for The Open. We have some fantastic Links courses to choose from including the Renaissance Club, Dunbar, Archerfield Links, Royal Burgess, North Berwick and of course Muirfield, the host to no less than 15 Open Championships.

The Highlands and North East Coast

Coming to the Scottish highlands has you entering in to something of a mystical land, fairytale castles, lochs and glens, ancient history at every turn and of course breathtaking golf courses. Starting our adventure at Cruden Bay, a course that has the reputation as a cult classic, a quirky masterpiece that has charmed visitors from all over the world. We move on to Castle Stuart, a modern classic of a golf course and the host for three recent Scottish Open Championships. We also offer Brora, Royal Aberdeen, Trump International and Royal Dornach, all superb golf courses. Part of this adventure is to drive an Aston Martin around the famous north coast 500, as far north as you can go on the mainland for an experience you will never forget.
